What’s an Accidental Orgasm?

What’sanAccidentalOrgasm

When you say ‘accidental orgasm’ it sounds quite scary. People generally don’t have positive thoughts when they think of the word ‘accident’.

But there is actually another name for accidental orgasm. It is spontaneous orgasm.

The word ‘spontaneous’ sounds quite fun. It may even be exciting and adventurous.

So, which is it? Good or bad? Let’s decide together.

What is an accidental orgasm?

An accidental orgasm, or spontaneous orgasm, is when someone has an orgasm without any sexual stimulation. It can be a quick orgasm, or it can be when someone has lots of orgasms in a row.

So, imagine you’re doing something non-sexual, like cleaning the house or grocery shopping, and suddenly you have a ‘big O’. This would be a good definition of having an accidental orgasm.

How do accidental orgasms happen?

There are many reasons why someone could experience accidental orgasms… here are five reasons:

1. There is a disorder called PGAD and it stands for Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder. PGAD is when someone feels turned on all of the time without any sexual touch. This may sound fun, but it can be difficult because they could lose focus on tasks. This condition is more common in women but men can have it too.

2. Having a night time orgasm. Many people may know this as having a ‘wet dream’. This kind of accidental orgasm is more common for teenage boys going through puberty, but it can happen to anyone at any stage of their life.

3. The ’happy hormone’ called serotonin can cause accidental orgasms. So if someone is taking prescription pills such as antidepressants or antipsychotics that have higher levels of serotonin, they might have an accidental orgasm.

4. It’s possible to get an accidental orgasm while exercising. For example, when you do stomach or core exercises. It’s more common that you may think, and it’s called a ’coregasm’.

5. Someone could have an orgasm only by thinking about something sexy. This means that they use their imagination and don’t touch themselves at all. This is more common in women.

The most common kind of spontaneous orgasm is the night time one.

Are accidental orgasms always pleasurable?

We’ve talked a bit about the different kinds of accidental orgasms, but are all of them pleasurable? It may be weird to say but actually, no.

For many people it’s hard to think of any orgasm as a non-pleasurable experience. But when someone has no control over them, they might happen at a very inconvenient time.

For example, maybe you are trying to work and you cannot focus. Or maybe you’re in a business meeting, exercising at the gym, or talking with a friend. All of these cases can be embarrassing or can interrupt your daily life. This could be the case of PGAD, using medication for mental health, or during a workout.

In other cases, a spontaneous orgasm could be a pleasurable experience. For example, if you are at home and you’re having erotic thoughts. Or you’re having a racy dream at home.

Of course every person is unique so the way they feel about accidental orgasms is personal.

If you are experiencing accidental orgasms and you find it uncomfortable, is there anything you can do to stop it?

How to stop accidental orgasms

There is not one treatment to stop accidental orgasms. It all depends on which type of accidental orgasm you have.

Unfortunately, there is no treatment for PGAD but some people have found that getting Botox has helped. This means getting the injections in the pelvic area.

When it comes to medication, there could be a way to stop accidental orgasms. A person could change their medication to find one that still works for their mental health but stops giving them spontaneous orgasms.

And for exercise, a person could try to do core workouts at home. This could take away any shame they might feel if they’re in public. Or they could change their workout routine.

There are also a few other things that could help to stop accidental orgasms. These things can help lower stress and it may just be that stress is what is causing these types of orgasms.

Should you see a doctor about your accidental orgasms?

If you feel like you can’t manage your life because of accidental orgasms, you could see a doctor.

A doctor will most likely do a physical exam, a pelvic exam, and a test to see your blood flow to your genitals.

Your doctor could also recommend a mental health specialist. Maybe you might have accidental orgasms due to emotional or behavioural issues.

So, at the end of the day, are accidental or spontaneous orgasms good or bad? The answer is not so black and white.

Sometimes they can be good and pleasurable. For example when they happen when you’re at home and you’ve used your imagination. Or if you’re having one during the night.

But other times it could be bad. This could be when it disturbs your life. For example, if you are trying to focus on something and you have an orgasm at the wrong time. Or you’re in public and you could feel embarrassed or ashamed.

There are some options for you though. And you could also visit a doctor to talk about your experience.
